MANIT terminates 60 contract faculties

Staff Reporter | Bhopal

The authorities at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) have decided to get rid of the contract faculties working with various departments. The Director has served notices to these faculties cutting short their contract period by half.

The administration has terminated their services with effect from December 17, 2007. Sources claim that the authorities are planning to hire lesser number of faculties from now on.

The administration at MANIT has terminated the contracts of around 60 guest faculties serving various departments of the institute.

Sources claim that their contract was due to expire in the month of May next year but the administration has decided to get rid of them half way through.

The administration has served them with notices terminating their contracts from December 17. The aggrieved faculties reportedly met the institute Director KS Pandey on Wednesday on the same matter.

The faculties reportedly questioned the logic behind the termination of their contracts mid way through. Sources claim that faculties also staged a protest inside the institute's campus protesting against the decision. However, the institute Director KS Pandey while talking to The Pioneer informed that they are not the regular faculties of MANIT and their contracts are subject to constant scrutiny. "We have terminated their contract on performance basis and would soon review their record for making fresh appointments through interviews," stated Pandey.
